Lawrence Hunger Coalition - The Lawrence Caring Center
About our business...
The Caring Center, a volunteer-driven food and clothing pantry, was founded by the Lawrence Police Department Chaplain and pastor of a local congregation, who has witnessed much disparity of resources amongst the township’s diverse population. The Caring Center identifies and serves needy children and their families through a referral program with area church pastors and the MSDLT social workers (see Student - Family Support Project details above). Needy families are screened and receive food and clothing from The Caring Center at no cost, with the focus being “a temporary hand up… not permanent handouts”.

Sharing Place East and West each have a food pantry and clothing bank. Both accept donations of nonperishable food and gently used clothing, but Sharing Place West can accommodate furniture donations as well. Items that can’t be used for the giveaway programs are sold at low cost to the public in a thrift store at Sharing Place West.
